It’s good,  informal, crowded and now even stylish.Ar Galletto (literally “At the little cockerel”), is a well known restaurant in the splendid surroundings of Piazza Farnese in Rome.

A hot-spot for professionals, VIP, tourists and families who look for genuine roman cooking and gourmet dishes. It has recently been refurbished and has moved few meters away from their old location to a bigger one, just around the corner. A new interior style (sleek and cosy) but importantly still the same menu and view: the unforgettable Piazza, the same one chosen by the French Embassy to base its exquisite head-quarters.

“We wanted to give a refresh to our old restaurant and finding a larger place for our customers. My daughter – said Angelo Coletti- suggested a more international look & feel. It’s a bit sophisticated now, but you can always find our genuine cooking”.

Tables outside are always fully booked but it’s easy being patient when you have such great architectural heritage in front of you. While you’re queueing I suggest you have a glass of their fabulous wine. Angelo Coletti, the owner, is a real wine lover and will you suggest only the best labels. For a great red wine go for  “Le Bertille-Nobile di Montepulciano-1997”, one of the gorgeous new entries suggested by Gambero Rosso experts.

"A full-bodied, well rounded and velvety wine - said proudly the wine maker Saverio Roberti-with an intense ruby red colour, and a strong ripe fruit perfumes background".

The food is traditional Roman fare and the variety is even better as you can now also enjoy  interesting fish menu, truffles and raw food cooked with love by the new chef “Donna Marrone”.

If  you don’t want to get wrong “do as romans do”, try the three top rated pasta dishes: Cacio e pepe, Carbornara, Amatriciana. Second courses like abbacchio al forno, paiata di vitello (calves’ intestines) and ossobucco con funghi may be challenging for some but are very popular with the regulars.Regarding their service; it’s full marks for courtesy and personal attention.
