Description

Monteverde is the name of one of the most charming quarter in Rome, a well beloved area among journalists and writers. In this case we're in the West Loop neighborhood, Monteverde is one of the most contemporary Italian bistrot in Chicago. First of all, we enjoyed the incisive cut of the wine list which features many small vignerons, orange wines, and a proper selection of sangiovese and nebbiolo based wines. And there're plenty of smart choices available by the glass. Chef Sarah Grueneberg has a good hand for pasta. We had some very pepperish cacio pepe bucatini, slighty more aromatic than in Rome but well made. We recommend linguine special Texas gulf shrimp, artichokes, Calabrian chile and lots of parsley crunchy breadcrumbs for garnish. In some recipes you may feel a certain American balance in terms of bold and rich flavors based on fresh ingredients. A good service and a lively atmosphere complete the package.
